BUSINESS ENGLISH · BUSINESS ISSUES · PRE-INTERMEDIATE (A2-B1) -DISCUSSING AND AGREEING Business Situations: We practiced how to express opinions and reach agreements in meetings and team discussions. Subject or Topic: The focus was on collaborative decision-making and polite disagreement in a business context. Language Functions: Maia learned how to give her opinion, agree or disagree politely, and suggest alternatives. Units: We worked through a dialogue-based activity and a short listening task from a business English resource. Vocabulary: Agree - To have the same opinion as someone else. Disagree -To have a different opinion from someone else. Suggest -To offer an idea or plan for others to consider. Compromise -A decision where both sides give up something to reach an agreement. Phrases / Expressions: Useful expressions included “I see your point,” “How about…?”, and “I’m not sure I agree.” Grammar: We reviewed modal verbs for suggestions (could, might) and sentence structures for polite disagreement. Pronunciation: Maia practiced stress and intonation in phrases used to express opinions and agreement. Other: We discussed cultural differences in expressing disagreement and the importance of tone in business English. Progress: Maia is gaining confidence in expressing her views and responding diplomatically in discussions. Feedback: She’s doing well with vocabulary and structure, and should continue practicing fluency and natural delivery. Homework: I will send you some links for you to review and complete the exercises at your convenience. https://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/general-english/magazine-zone/international-day-happiness https://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/business-english/podcasts-professionals/managing-conflict
