BUSINESS SITUATIONS: The lesson focused on practising tense usage in a general English context.
SUBJECT OR TOPIC: Tense Review, covering Present Simple, Present Continuous, and Stative Verbs.
LANGUAGE FUNCTIONS: Describing actions happening now or around the present moment, expressing opinions, emotions, possession, and perceptions.
UNITS: The lesson covered pages 1 to 5, stopping at the end of the section on stative verbs.
VOCABULARY: The student practised words and expressions such as right information, offer more training, train them more, get it right at the first go/time, housemaid, vegetarian, once a year/week/month, leaves, pleasing to look at, currently, treadmill, gym, hectic/busy, soaking up, novel, and sleep in.
GRAMMAR: The session focused on the Present Simple for habits, routines, frequency, and likes and dislikes, the Present Continuous for actions happening now or around the present moment, the use of stative verbs for thoughts, opinions, emotions, perceptions, possession, and measurement.
PRONUNCIATION: Contractions in the Present Continuous were practised.
OTHER: The student completed exercises on describing Julie’s daily routine and discussed images, filled in gaps with correct tenses, and differentiated between state and action verbs.
PROGRESS: The student was able to correctly identify the uses of Present Simple and Present Continuous and showed a good understanding of stative verbs. Some hesitation was noted when differentiating between actions and states, which will be reinforced in future lessons.
FEEDBACK: The student engaged well with the exercises and oral practice.
HOMEWORK: Complete Act 5 from Problems & Suggestions, Topic A, and Act 3, Group 2, sentences 4-5 from the tense review.
