LANGUAGE FUNCTIONS:Describing work responsibilities, comparing cultural norms, expressing opinions on professional etiquette. UNITS:Describing a Job (partial) and Gestures and Manners (completed). VOCABULARY:table manners, greetings, queue, well-mannered, drunk, overwhelming, plate, stare/star, bite, a pat on the back, bite off more than you can chew, forty winks, lunch break, save lives, demanding, rewarding, fascinating, satisfying, stressful, tiring. PHRASES / EXPRESSIONS:a pat on the back, bite off more than you can chew, stare into space, forty winks. GRAMMAR:Adjective formation and word families were introduced. PRONUNCIATION:Clarified pronunciation of “tiring,” “private,” “United States,” and “tired.” OTHER:Completed the lesson on Gestures and Manners, including listening comprehension, idioms, and discussion. The student showed understanding of cultural etiquette and used idiomatic expressions appropriately. We also began Describing a Job and covered vocabulary and some listening, but did not complete the full unit. PROGRESS:The lesson on manners allowed for real-life application and stimulated personal reflection. Listening tasks were mostly successful, with minor gaps in detailed comprehension. FEEDBACK:She participated actively and showed good recall of vocabulary. She needs to continue practising forming sentences using new adjectives and idioms, and work on word stress and listening for specific details. HOMEWORK:Complete Activity 3 in the Describing a Job unit.
