CEO – Chief Executive Officer, the top leader of a company. Higher executives – senior managers and leaders in a company. White-collar jobs – office-based professional work (lawyers, bankers, corporate workers). Blue-collar jobs – manual labor jobs (factories, construction, physical work). Pink-collar jobs – service jobs (bartenders, waiters, retail, often lower wage). Industry they are working in – the type of business field (technology, hospitality, healthcare, etc.). GRAMMAR Use "work in" for industries: “She works in finance.” “They work in the hospitality industry.” Use "work as" for job roles: “He works as a director.” “She works as a waitress.” Compare gross vs. net with "before" and "after": “My gross salary is €3,000, but after taxes my net salary is €2,400.” Contrast collar job types with "while/whereas": “White-collar workers often work in offices, whereas blue-collar workers usually work in factories.” PRONUNCIATION Gross /ɡrəʊs/ – watch the "gr" blend, not "grow-ss". Net /net/ – short, clear vowel. Executive /ɪɡˈzek.jə.tɪv/ – stress on the second syllable: zeK-yə. Collar /ˈkɒl.ər/ – short first syllable, not “koh-”. Industry /ˈɪn.də.stri/ – stress on the first syllable. CEO – say each letter clearly: C-E-O. Expensive /ɪkˈspen.sɪv/ – stress on the middle syllable: ex-PEN-sive.
