Success strategies for women in business, focusing on personal growth, professional communication, and leadership LANGUAGE FUNCTIONS Sandy practiced giving advice, expressing opinions, making suggestions, and describing habits and goals. She used these functions in realistic business situations, such as meetings and networking conversations. UNITS The lesson focused on four key topics: Confidence in the workplace: Sandy learned how to speak and act with self-assurance. Networking and relationship building: She practiced ways to connect professionally and maintain relationships. Lifelong learning: Sandy explored the importance of continuous personal and professional development. VOCABULARY Sandy learned and used important business-related words that help her speak more professionally. These included: Confidence – belief in yourself Network – a group of professional contacts Skill – an ability you develop Suggest – to offer an idea Opportunity – a chance to grow or succeed. PHRASES / EXPRESSIONS Sandy practiced useful expressions that are commonly used in business conversations. These included: Believe in yourself.” – to encourage confidence Let’s stay in touch.” – to maintain a connection I want to improve my skills.” – to express a goal I think we should…” – to make a suggestion Grammar: Sandy worked with grammar structures that support clear and effective communication. She practiced: Modal verbs (should, can, must) to give advice and express possibility Present simple and present continuous to talk about habits and current actions Infinitives (e.g., want to learn, need to improve) to express goals PRONUNCIATION Sandy practiced pronunciation to improve clarity and confidence when speaking. She focused on: Word stress in key vocabulary: con-FI-dence, net-WORK, LEARN-ing Intonation to sound polite and professional when giving opinions or disagreeing Linking sounds in phrases like “speak up” → /spiːkʌp/, which helps her sound more fluent OTHER: Watched and discussed the video Completed vocabulary matching and sentence-building exercises PROGRESS: Sandy can now: Describe success strategies for women in business Use key vocabulary and expressions in context Give advice and express opinions clearly Participate in basic business conversations FEEDBACK: Sandy showed great enthusiasm and used new vocabulary confidently.
