UNITS
The lesson focused on topics from the Word on the Street video series, including urban life and travel. Ingrid interacted with these themes through vocabulary exercises, role-plays, and listening tasks, connecting language to real-life situations.
VOCABULARY: Landmark – A famous or easily recognized building or place.
Financial district – An area where many banks and business offices are located.
Docklands – A part of London that used to be a busy port and is now modernized with homes and offices.
Rush hour – The busiest time of day when people travel to and from work.
Luggage rack – A shelf or space to store bags on a train or bus.
EXPRESSIONS/PHRASES: Useful phrases “mind the gap,” “rush hour,” “hold a meeting,” and “catch a train.” Ingrid understood their meanings and began incorporating them into her speech, which helped her sound more fluent and natural.
PRONUNCIATION: Focus was placed on British pronunciation, particularly connected speech and word stress. Ingrid practiced repeating lines from the videos to improve her rhythm and intonation, especially in travel-related expressions.
GRAMMAR:Key grammar points included present perfect for life experiences (“I’ve travelled by train in London”) and modals for advice (“You should arrive early”). Ingrid used these structures accurately in both written and spoken practice.
OTHER NOTES: Ingrid engaged well with the video content, asking questions about cultural differences in travel and city planning. She showed curiosity and attention to detail, especially in noticing expressions and tone used by native speakers.
PROGRESS: Today marked Ingrid’s first English lesson, and she made a strong start. She engaged actively with the video materials, showed curiosity about new vocabulary, and began using key phrases during class activities.
CLASS FEEDBACK: Ingrid was focused and enthusiastic during the lesson. She participated in all activities and worked well independently and in pairs. A small reminder to keep practicing pronunciation and reviewing expressions between lessons.
HOMEWORK:Watch another Word on the Street episode and note 5 new expressions or phrases to share next class.
